A community under siege

For the first couple of months of 2026, our small Minnesotan community has been devastated by Operation Metro Surge. While the surge has died down, we are still picking up the pieces and dealing with the aftermath of the months long occupation.

Make a difference by sponsoring a crane

There is a Japanese tradition of folding 1,000 origami cranes which symbolizes a prayer for healing and peace after tragedy. In that tradition, the residents of Columbia Heights will be getting together to fold 1,000 cranes as an act of unity and healing. We’re asking folks from around the county to sponsor a crane by donating to our mutual aid fund. During the folding event, we will put your name and a short message of you choosing on a crane. Soon after, all cranes will be gathered to create a memorial which will be displayed at Columbia Heights city hall.

A Community in action

Requests for aid continues to grow, our community is working hard to meet the needs of impacted families – and you can help. By sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family, you are truly saving lives. All donations will go to the HeightsNEXT mutual aid fund which has been supporting our families by keep roofs over their heads, food on our neighbor’s tables, and helping our vibrant community heal from the inflicted traumas of the last few months.

Folding event
