One of the friendliest ways to meet the community is by hosting a storytelling panel! Every month we partner with First Lutheran Community Church to host Stories From Our Neighborhood. Each panel features first-hand accounts by residents as they describe their life experiences through a themed perspective. Past episodes have focused on Muslim neighbors, veteran neighbors, Latino neighbors, LGBTQ neighbors, and many other themes. If panelists agree, audio of these events may be recorded and published online.
HeightsNEXT contributes by recruiting panelists, providing refreshments, and staffing the events.
Stories From Our Neighborhood Volunteering
Storytelling events are generally held around the second Wednesday of each month. We try to plan our themes about 6 months in advance.
Events are held immediately inside the entrance of:
First Lutheran Community Church (lobby)
1555 40th Ave NE
Columbia Heights, MN 55421
Planning usually takes place at public meeting spaces such as the library, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.
- Attend planning meetings
- Recruit panelists
- Set up event seating
- Staff the event
- Clean up event seating
A rotating host may be provided by either First Lutheran or HeightsNEXT. We typically use a few minutes of the event to promote other HeightsNEXT events. Let us know if you are interested in public speaking!
